Big Sky Resort is not renowned for having great nightlife or a big range of restaurants. This may be in part due to the very spread out nature of the Big Sky lodging. At the end of the day, many visitors hole up in their condo or mountain home and eat in, because it can take a lot of effort to get to the small Mountain Village where the restaurants and bars are located.

The choice of Big Sky restaurants is somewhat disappointing. There are a couple of upscale places to eat and several cheap take-away options, but otherwise if you’re looking for affordable places to dine and sit down, then you’re pretty much limited to burgers and fries.

Peaks is located at The Summit Hotel. Peaks Chophouse is a lovely restaurant that offers reasonably upscale fare. Steaks are the dinner specialty.

Next door is Carabiner, a lounge bar that offers lovely views of Lone Peak. You can sip on a cocktail, partake in appetizers such as bison dumplings (whoops I nearly spelled that as bison “dumpings”!), or order a main course. The food is beautiful but it’s a little clunky to eat some meals because the lounge chairs don’t slide under the tables.

We had dinner at Montana Jack in the Mountain Mall. We found the food to be boringly average and the service poor, but you go there for the beers. Montana Jack has lots of different beers to try including the quintessential Moose Drool.

On the first floor of the Village Center is the Andiamo Italian Grille, with expensive pastas and a few other mains. There is also a bar grill restaurant in the Huntley Lodge for gastro pub fare.

Or you can head up the Ramcharger lift for some fancy food at Everett’s 8800.

The best place for proper après ski festivities is to ski in to Scissorbills Saloon (3rd floor of the Arrowhead Mall). The food is cheap but it’s not very good unless you’re ravenous. Your main objective here should be the beer. This is a locals’ bar and the atmosphere is not family friendly, so it’s good for some adult time.

Off-Mountain

Big Sky Town Center is growing quickly, and a few more lovely café and restaurant offerings are popping up.

Lotus Pad gets plenty of attention with its hip and affordable Asian cuisine that’s mostly Thai.

A little further afield in Canyon is Buck’s T4. It’s a classic Montana steak house, but it also has plenty of other great cuisine to choose from.
